The 1st British Ceramics Biennial is an international ceramics festival taking place at Stoke-on-Trent in September 2009 with the support and engagement of the local ceramics community and industry.
Biennale Highlights: The wide ceramics spectrum and the impact of ceramics in the world - Work by designers, artists, studio potters and manufacturers from across the globe - New viewpoints, different and challenging ways of using ceramics - Breaking down the barriers between Designers, Craftspeople and Artists, towards greater inclusiveness.
Commissioned ceramics in the Public Realm is a main feature of the Biennial.

Content: The conference will promote the Genius Loci - Spirit of Place programme, embedding artists within the planning process, derived from the Public Art Common Fund, financed by development in Essex.
Themes: Essex - Design Excellence - Artists - New Approaches. The idea of Cultural Capital is a central theme: of adding to the quality of life and public space through cultural destinations and activities; attracting new economies into the region through culture. 
Reference will also be made to the 2012 Olympics and the Thames Gateway
Essex County Council and Commissions East will communicate the content of Genius Loci through dedicated articles in the A&AJ magazine and through this major conference

How can it add to retail profits? - Case Studies: Qatar, Dubai, Abu Dhabi: "Wealthy Middle Eastern states including Qatar and Dubai are setting up new cultural centres to diversify their economies and attract more tourists. Qatar's new Isamic Art Museum will open in 2007, while Abu Dhabi in the UAE is planning a Guggenheim Museum for modern art designed by Frank Gehry. Exhibition - This is Tomorrow2 - London + All over the UK

The Independant Group Exhibition of 1956 re-visited. As with the 1956 exhibition 12 groups of three / four people - an Artist, an Architect, a Culture or Communications specialist - work together to create an installation in a defined pavilion space reflecting their collaborative artist / architect / urbanist vision of the future.
