Editorial:  Ceramic City: Ceramic Design & the Public Realm
The 1st British Ceramics Biennial will address the wider ceramics spectrum and be outward facing, aiming to raise public awareness and demonstrating the impact of ceramics in the world. By showcasing work by Designers, Artists, Studio Potters and Manufacturers from across the globe, the Biennial will highlight new viewpoints and communicate different and challenging ways of using ceramics.  Above all, the Biennial will seek to breakdown boundaries between Designers, Craftspeople and Artists, thereby encouraging greater inclusiveness.
Commissioned ceramics in the Public Realm will be a major feature of the 1st British Ceramics Biennial.

Plus Genius Loci Conference, Spring 2010
Editorial: Genius Loci: Spirit of Place
A&AJ 70/71 focuses on Genius Loci - the spirit of the place - three year public art programme of art commissions funded through the Essex County Council Public Art Common Fund and managed by Commissions East.
Artists' Visions - New approaches to Essexness - Artists' projects, developed in urban and rural developments, explored the surprising and extraordinary aspects of objects and landscape. Genius Loci introduced unusual rituals  and perspectives, adding not only aesthetic reflection but fun to people’s lives through small but smart interaction and collaboration.
Essex Renaissance - Design Excellence through Culture Led Regeneration
Essex is developing an innovative and creative approach to architectural design. Slow burn and Fast Track approaches to culture led regeneration include the 2012 Olympics and Thames Gateway. The idea of Renaissance recognises the importance of Cultural Capital - the role of culture and regeneration to provide economic attractiveness for residents, tourism and business to increase awareness of the region as a cultural destination.
